A friend and I being captured by a photographer, whom then featured us in a website titled “Photos of People in New York."

One thing that always lets me know New York is my real home is when people ask me where I am from. I never quite knew what to say. I would say “Manhattan, Chinatown,” and they would say “No, like where are you FROM?” That’s when I get really confused. “I am from China,” and they would all go “Ohhhh,” as if that was the response they were all looking for in the first place. It’s not that I don’t like to tell people that I’m from China but it’s just that I never felt like I could justify it. My family came to America when I was eight, and even though I do have plenty of memories from there, they are largely blurry. Home to me is a place where I can name all the streets; know where the best places to eat, to shop, and to play are. Home is where tourists would come up to you to ask for directions. In China, I would be the tourist. - Hui Liang

Answer to the question:
"Is there a memory that speaks of that moment, when you knew and felt for the first time, that America was your home?"
